JB COUNTRY WESTERN DANCING

REPORT MARCH 27th 2009

Westcott Sports & Social CWDC

March rolls around and we welcome for the first visit to Westcott CWDC, a duo named “Double Barrel” Kev and Tony.

These two great guys, of fine stature (hence the name) entertained a really good turnout with great Country music thanks to everyone who came.

We were delighted to welcome visitors travelling from all around the area to join us this evening, “Tuesday Night Stompers” from in and around Banbury we hope to return the visit to some of the regular clubs they support in the near future. New friends joined us from Swindon and even as far away as Windsor.

We hope we made them welcome and that they all had a great night with us as we really appreciate them visiting us and hope to see them again.

“Double Barrel” was a new band to almost everyone in the club tonight but I am sure everyone will want to see them again.

Great country music from Merle Haggard’s “Silver Wings” to classics such as “God Bless Texas”, “California Blue”, “Coward of the County”, new songs that are popular dances like “Ride the River” kept the dance floor busy all night with Partner, Line and Social dancers all co-existing with noticeable excellent etiquette.

Tony takes the lead vocals and has a great voice that can handle the diverse range of songs “Double Barrel” play.  Kev backs in vocals, though he did lead on a couple of songs and played guitar and mandolin.

Really nice touch for me was a couple of songs they did in Tribute to the great Hank Locklin, one of the most celebrated names in Country and Western music, who died on March 8th 2009, aged 91. Just one of the many songs he made famous was among the couple that “Double Barrel” did an excellent job of “Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On”.

Finally as a treat for me and my good lady Kev and Tony sang one of my favourite songs – Tracy Byrd’s - “Keeper Of The Stars”.  The Guys were not allowed to leave to stage until they had done at least a double encore illustrating just what an excellent night was had with a truly nice atmosphere, thanks to everyone who came to Westcott this evening.
